That's the day we put a spotlight on how fed up women across the country are with extremist, anti-choice politicians blocking our access to birth control and abortion. While I stood on the floor of the Texas Senate, filibustering Republicans' effort to slash access to reproductive health care, millions of women and progressives stood with me and declared in no uncertain terms that we have had ENOUGH.
Now, we both know that this fight is about more than that bill, or any other individual bill, it's about the attacks on women's rights and their ability to make their own choices throughout the country. That's why I'm going all in for Donna Edwards to be Maryland's next U.S. Senator.
We have a U.S. Senate led by extremist Republicans like Mitch McConnell who have worked non-stop to defund Planned Parenthood, block equal pay for equal work, and will not stop attacking working women and families. Donna Edwards will stop those attacks and lead the fight against them every step of the way.
Standing on that state Senate floor for 13 hours was made easier because so many of you were with me. We stood together because we had to make Republicans listen. They needed to listen to the stories women shared with me and that I read that day, stories that explained in very personal terms why access to birth control and abortion matters.
Because women who rely on Planned Parenthood and are fighting for their reproductive freedom are not talking points. And the elected leaders who actually get that -- like Donna -- matter.
It's one thing to talk about these issues, it's another to walk into a Planned Parenthood because you need healthcare like Donna and I have.
