Hello everyone. Today is my birthday and this is my first diary.
My first diary is about my mother. She is (was) a big Bernie Sanders supporter and she voted for him in the Maryland primary.
We do not talk about politics much, she thinks its too boring and complicated. As best as I could, I explained Hillary’s positions on all the issues. We visited Hillary’s website and read as much as we could, to no avail. We also visited Bernie’s site. In the end she voted for Bernie and I voted for Hillary.
I support Hillary passionately (I have been accused of this on DKos). So you can imagine how pissed off I have been the last few weeks. When my Mom would accost me on occasion about how great Bernie was, I would shoo her away with a sweet “go away you old bag.” I tried to explain to her the unrealistic nature of Bernie’s plans, such as they are. I also told her that Bernie’s people could become troublemakers.
As Hillary would continue to win and gain delegates, my Mom would give me the silent treatment. I could tell she was getting a bit angry at me and Hillary and the entire Democratic Party.
Until this past weekend in Las Vegas. She likes The Rachel Maddow show and she tries to catch it every day. Rachel has covered the events in Vegas extensively and in a fair manner. After watching TRMS on Tuesday, my Mom called me and said, and I quote: OK, voy a votar por la senora Clinton, tu ganaste. Translation: OK I’m going to vote for Mrs Clinton. You won.
