Received this e-mail today from Rep. Chris Van Hollen’s (D. MD) U.S. Senate campaign:
Friend, Congress is back in session this week and the Republicans are back to pushing for sweetheart deals for big money special interests. At this moment, Republicans are working to advance legislation that would not only allow but protect Wall Street and major corporations as they play fast and loose with billions in dangerous bets and trading. The House has already acted on this bill. Now, it is in the Senate. I’ve been fighting against this kind of reckless legislation for a very long time. We cannot let this stand. Please add your name and demand that Republicans in Congress act to protect American consumers. Supporters of the so-called Commodity End-User Relief Act are hoping that by pretending this bill benefits farmers and ranchers, we’ll turn a blind eye to this reckless legislation. They’re wrong. Farmers and ranchers aren’t making the billion dollar bets that this legislation permits — it's Wall Street, big oil companies, and Koch Industries who are. This legislation would undermine the ability of the Commodity Futures Trading Commission to do its job and protect consumers, American farmers, and our economy. Please join me in signing this petition to tell Senate Majority leader Mitch McConnell that in its current state, the Commodity End-User Relief Act is dangerous to our economy, consumers and common sense oversight. It’s absolutely unacceptable. >>> Thank you for adding your voice, Chris
