Received this e-mail today from Democracy for America:
Donald Trump is so unpopular that if he becomes the Republican nominee, it could mean big gains for Democrats up and down the ballot. At least, that's what the polls are showing right now.
It's too early to know whether 2016 will be a wave election like 2006. But we already know we need to elect more progressives in the U.S. House to help Bernie Sanders and Elizabeth Warren fight back against Wall Street and set a bold agenda. David Dayen explained it clearly in The New Republic this week:
Without progressive victories at the primary level, a Democratic House majority won't be inclined to rack up the kind of meaningful accomplishments that are the purpose of elections in the first place. One of the progressive candidates Dayen referred to in his article is Jamie Raskin, running in Maryland's 8th Congressional district against two wealthy candidates with connections to Wall Street. DFA has endorsed Jamie Raskin and several other progressive challengers running for the House -- Nanette Barragan, Lucy Flores, Pramila Jayapal, Joseline Peña-Melnyk, Susannah Randolph, and Zephyr Teachout -- because we need to make sure that strong progressives, rather than weak corporate Democrats, set the agenda in Congress. Bernie Sanders and Elizabeth Warren need allies in the House to continue the fight against Wall Street. With the ultra-critical March 31 FEC deadline coming up fast, can you chip in $3 or more to these candidates -- and help DFA take the political revolution to Congress? Bernie Sanders and Elizabeth Warren need allies in the House to continue the fight against Wall Street. With the ultra-critical March 31 FEC deadline coming up fast, can you chip in $3 or more to these candidates -- and help DFA take the political revolution to Congress? Even if we have a chance to defeat more Congressional Republicans this fall, it won't happen all by itself. The political revolution is all about people across America rising up and taking back their government from the millionaires and billionaires. These candidates aren't incumbents. They are running strong, grassroots-oriented campaigns in winnable districts across the country because they know it's time for change. They're speaking out for a bold agenda, including getting big money out of elections and expanding Social Security and Medicare. But they are also up against a big deadline at the end of this month. With primaries coming up quickly in these critical districts, they need our help. We saw with the Bernie Sanders campaign what can happen when Americans step up and give to progressive candidates. You can make a big difference right now. Take the political revolution to the House -- before the March 31 FEC deadline. Chip in $3 or more to help elect Nanette Barragan, Lucy Flores, Pramila Jayapal, Joseline Peña-Melnyk, Susannah Randolph, Jamie Raskin, and Zephyr Teachout. Thank you for helping support these progressive champions for Congress. - Jim Jim Dean, Chair Democracy for America
