Maryland Republican Governor Larry Hogan and Maryland Education Secretary Karen Salmon held a press conference a little while ago that hubby and I just listened to. Hogan got easily re-elected in a blue state last time around and I can better understand why after hearing the press conference. I actually felt surprised at any Republican showing up with competence and leadership and sounding intelligent due to how the national party has been taken over by lunatics. I felt like there was an adult in charge and that good decisions are being made. I don’t know whether Hogan’s words and actions and those of Gov DeWine in Ohio will sway any of the Trumpist deniers; I hope they will have some effect. Hogan has ordered all bars, restaurants, movie theatres and gyms closed as of 5 pm today. He is said Maryland has 9000 hospital beds and he is working to get 6000 more online.
People with out of state or expired in state medical credentials are allowed to practice. Schools had already been closed. Meals are being served to school children.
Some National Guard are already called up, more will be.
Basically the message was: “This is serious and we are taking it seriously, no more f*%#ing around.” He wouldn’t say anything bad about Trump, but contrasted the state’s response to the delayed federal response.
There were more details, but I was expecting to write this up so I wasn’t attending quite as closely as I might have.
