Rep. Chris Van Hollen (D. MD)Friend, the horrific attack on the LGBT community in Orlando last week shocked and outraged us all. But this week we saw something nearly as shocking. The refusal of the GOP to act on commonsense gun safety measures that would help put an end to the epidemic of gun related violence in our communities. Last week Senate Democrats held a 15-hour filibuster to force Senate Republicans to call a vote on legislation that would make our country a safer place. Then on Monday Senate Republicans blocked all four gun reform measures. But that’s not the end of this fight. Right now my Democratic colleagues and I are leading a sit-in on the House floor to demand a House vote to curb gun violence once and for all. We cannot give up on this. We have to increase the pressure on Republicans until they are forced to represent the interests of the American people, not the gun lobby.
