Maryland's time has come. The time for Maryland to prove its mettle.
2016 is the most exciting election year in ages. While some people are still stuck in unthinking old party warfare, a sizable and ever growing number of Americans have awoken to the reality that we must fix our rigged systems: both the rigged economy which prevents many honest working people from getting anywhere in their lives and our political system which is dominated by billionaires and party leaderships who think that only they, not the rest of us, should have any say.
Today is Maryland's hour in our first big battle this year. As every state when its time comes, Maryland must now push for true representatives of ourselves in government rather than the traditional shills for the oligarchy such as those who enable the offshoring of American jobs to cheap labor countries through "free trade agreements" like NAFTA and the TPP (shame on you, Clintons and Obama!).
If there is a website which lists all true candidates of the people, I have yet to find it. In the meantime, though, I am aware of one good candidate from Maryland: Donna Edwards, a single mom who some years ago almost went bankrupt because she couldn't get affordable health insurance; in other words: a real life person, not a spoiled child of the establishment living a picture book perfect life, thus being completely incapable of understanding the struggles of the majority of Americans. We need such real life Americans to represent the rest of us. We need a lot of them. A majority. A majority of representatives of the people, by the people, and for the people. And if we keep at it, we will get them. I hope that in November Marylanders will elect Donna Edwards into the U.S. Senate. … Oh, and I just realized, there are more: Joseline Peña-Melnyk and Jamie Raskin for Congress. If only our true candidates were not so hard to find with the corporate media always keeping the lid on them as much as possible. Oh, yes, and all three need Maryland’s nomination today. So, go for it Marylanders!
At any rate, let’s not forget that we still have a real people’s presidential candidate to nominate: Bernie Sanders, the only presidential candidate in ages who serves the American people instead of the oligarchs and who calls for unrigging our political process. Together with people like Edwards, Peña-Melnyk, and Raskin he can help us win back our government. He is our man for the White House, and like all who do the dirty work in politics for the rest of us, he needs our support to get where he needs to be. Oh, and yes, the reports of his campaign's death are greatly exaggerated, in fact: they are a mendacious fabrication by the corporate media. Bernie outdid Obama against Clinton in her home state last week, despite all the vote manipulation and suppression there. Therefore, go for Bernie, Maryland!
